McClintock Study

The McClintock Study, conducted by Barbara McClintock in the 1940s and 1950s, investigated how certain regions of chromosome DNA called "transposons" or "jumping genes" can move from one location to another within the genome. She discovered that these genetic elements are responsible for genetic variations and mutations, actively changing the DNA structure. Her groundbreaking work showed that genes are more dynamic than previously thought, influencing genetic stability and diversity. This research laid a foundation for understanding genetic regulation, inheritance, and the role of mobile genetic elements in evolution and disease.
