Maya languages
Maya languages are a group of related indigenous languages spoken primarily in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and parts of Honduras and El Salvador. They belong to the larger Maya language family, which has a long history dating back thousands of years. Today, hundreds of thousands of people speak these languages, many alongside Spanish. Maya languages include various distinct but related languages such as K’iche’, Yucatec, and Q’eqchi’. They have complex grammar, rich vocabularies, and unique writing systems, reflecting deep cultural traditions. Efforts continue to preserve and revitalize these languages, emphasizing their importance to indigenous identity and heritage.
