Maxillary advancement
Maxillary advancement is a surgical procedure that moves the upper jaw (maxilla) forward to improve bite alignment and facial harmony. This procedure is often used to correct conditions like a retruded (set-back) upper jaw or certain types of skeletal malocclusions, where the upper teeth don’t fit properly with the lower teeth. By repositioning the maxilla, it can also enhance breathing and facial appearance. The surgery involves cutting the upper jaw and sliding it forward on carefully planned plates or screws, allowing the bones to heal in the new position over time.
