MAX phase materials

MAX phase materials are a special group of layered compounds made of metal, a transition metal, and either carbon or nitrogen. They have a unique combination of properties, being both strong and resistant to heat and corrosion, yet also lightweight and easy to shape. These characteristics make them useful in high-temperature environments, electronics, and structural applications. The name "MAX" comes from their general formula: Mₙ+1AXₙ, where M is a metal, A is a group of elements like aluminum, and X is carbon or nitrogen. Their versatility stems from these layered structures, offering a blend of ceramic and metallic qualities.
