Mavi Marmara Incident

The Mavi Marmara incident occurred in 2010 when a Turkish humanitarian aid flotilla attempting to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza was intercepted by Israeli navy forces. During the confrontation on the ships, Israeli soldiers used live fire, resulting in the deaths of nine Turkish activists and injuries to others. The incident heightened international tensions, raising concerns about freedom of movement for aid and the use of force. Israel argued it acted in self-defense to prevent the, what it called, illegal shipment of weapons, while critics viewed the raid as an unnecessary and violent act against unarmed civilians.
