Mausoleum of Halicarnassus
The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus was an ancient tomb built around 350 BCE in what is now Bodrum, Turkey. It was constructed for Mausolus, a satrap (governor) of Persia, and his wife Artemisia. Renowned for its impressive architecture, it combined Greek, Egyptian, and Near Eastern design elements, standing about 45 meters tall with detailed sculptures and marble carvings. Its grandeur and artistic significance made it one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The mausoleum was eventually destroyed by earthquakes, but its remains and historical descriptions continue to influence architecture and art.
