
Matthias Corvinus
Matthias Corvinus, also known as Matthias I of Hungary, was a 15th-century king known for his strong leadership and cultural patronage. Reigning from 1458 to 1490, he expanded Hungary's borders and strengthened its power in Central Europe. He was notable for promoting the Renaissance in Hungary by supporting the arts, education, and sciences, and he established a famed library, the Bibliotheca Corviniana. Matthias was also recognized for his progressive policies, including efforts to enhance the legal system and improve the status of peasants. His reign is often seen as a golden age in Hungarian history.
