Matthew (Levi)

Matthew, also known as Levi, was one of Jesus' twelve apostles and a former tax collector. He is traditionally credited with authoring the Gospel of Matthew. As a tax collector, he was often viewed unfavorably by his community due to his role in collecting taxes for the Roman authorities. Despite this, Jesus called him to follow and became one of his close disciples.
