Matthew (Levi)

Matthew, also known as Levi, was one of Jesus' twelve apostles and a former tax collector. He is traditionally credited with authoring the Gospel of Matthew. As a tax collector, he was often viewed unfavorably by his community due to his role in collecting taxes for the Roman authorities. Despite this, Jesus called him to follow and became one of his close disciples. Matthew’s story highlights themes of redemption and acceptance, illustrating that individuals from all backgrounds can be transformed and included in spiritual community. His life underscores the message of forgiveness and the importance of faith and new beginnings.
