Matrix Gla protein

Matrix Gla Protein (MGP) is a vitamin K-dependent protein found mainly in our blood vessels and cartilage. Its primary role is to prevent calcium from depositing in the walls of arteries, helping to keep them flexible and healthy. Without enough vitamin K, MGP can't function properly, which may lead to the buildup of calcium in arteries—a process linked to cardiovascular disease. Essentially, MGP acts as a natural protector, ensuring calcium is directed away from arteries and toward bones where it’s needed. Maintaining adequate vitamin K levels supports MGP’s function and promotes vascular health.
