Materialism and Idealism

Materialism is the philosophy that everything that exists is made up of physical matter; it holds that the substance of reality is material, and everything, including thoughts and consciousness, emerges from this physical world. In contrast, Idealism posits that reality is fundamentally mental or conceptual; it suggests that ideas and consciousness shape the material world. In essence, materialism focuses on tangible substances that can be observed and measured, while idealism emphasizes the importance of thoughts and ideas in understanding existence. Both viewpoints explore the nature of reality but from different foundational perspectives.
