Mashtots (Mesrop Mashtots)

Mesrop Mashtots was an influential Armenian scholar and church figure from the 5th century who created the Armenian alphabet around 405 AD. Prior to this, Armenians used different scripts for writing, but there was no unified system for their language. Mashtots developed a new, standardized alphabet with distinct characters, enabling Armenians to write and read their language confidently. This innovation fostered the spread of literature, religious texts, and education, helping to strengthen Armenian cultural and national identity.
