Masculinity and Place

Masculinity refers to the qualities, behaviors, and roles often associated with men, such as strength, independence, and assertiveness, but these can vary across cultures and individuals. Place relates to the physical or social environment where people live, work, or feel connected—like neighborhoods, cities, or regions. Together, masculinity and place influence how identities are formed and expressed; a man’s sense of masculinity can be shaped by the cultural norms of his environment, while his actions and identity can, in turn, impact and be influenced by that community or space.
