Mark Karpeles
Mark Karpeles is a French computer programmer best known for his role as CEO of Mt. Gox, once the world's largest Bitcoin exchange. Under his leadership, Mt. Gox handled a significant portion of Bitcoin transactions globally. In 2014, the exchange collapsed after losing approximately 850,000 Bitcoins, leading to financial losses for many users and raising concerns about security and regulation in cryptocurrency. Karpeles was subsequently arrested and faced charges of embezzlement and data manipulation. His case highlighted the risks associated with early cryptocurrency platforms and the importance of security and transparency in digital asset trading.
