Marja' (Islamic authority)

In Shia Islam, a Marja' (short for Marja' Taqlid) is a highly learned religious scholar recognized as a source of authoritative guidance on Islamic law and practices. They are qualified to interpret Islamic texts and provide religious rulings (fatwas) for their followers. Muslims who follow a Marja' do so to ensure their religious actions align with proper understanding.
