Maritime Territory
Maritime territory refers to the areas of the ocean and coastlines that a country claims for ownership, exploration, and use. This includes territorial waters extending up to 12 nautical miles from its coast, where the country has sovereignty. Beyond that, in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) up to 200 nautical miles, a nation has rights to resources like fish, minerals, and energy. Maritime boundaries are important for navigation, resource management, and sovereignty disputes. These claims are governed by international laws, primarily the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
