Maritime Interdiction Operations
Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO) are coordinated efforts by military or naval forces to monitor, inspect, and intercept vessels at sea. These operations aim to prevent illegal activities such as drug trafficking, smuggling, or unauthorized military movements. Using patrol ships, aircraft, and sometimes submarines, forces identify suspicious ships, verify their cargo, and take action if necessary, including boarding or forcing vessels to stop. The goal is to maintain security and enforce laws on sea routes without escalating conflict, ensuring safe maritime commerce and preventing threats from reaching land or regional interests.
