Margin Status
Margin status refers to the evaluation of whether all cancerous tissue has been removed during surgery. It indicates if the tissue edges, or margins, around the excised area are free of cancer cells. A "clear" or "negative" margin means no cancer is seen at the edges, suggesting complete removal. A "positive" margin means cancer cells are present at the edge, implying some may remain. The margin status helps doctors determine if further treatment is needed and provides insight into the completeness of tumor removal, guiding ongoing care decisions.
