Marcus Garvey's Universal Negro Improvement Association

The Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), founded by Marcus Garvey in 1914, was a movement that promoted pride, unity, and economic empowerment among people of African descent worldwide. Garvey encouraged Africans and the African diaspora to embrace their heritage, achieve social and political self-sufficiency, and return to Africa if possible. The organization aimed to uplift Black communities through education, entrepreneurship, and advocating for civil rights. It became one of the largest Black organizations of the early 20th century, inspiring a sense of identity and collective action across the global African diaspora.
