Marcus Antonius (Mark Antony)
Marcus Antonius, commonly known as Mark Antony, was a Roman politician and general in the late Roman Republic. A close ally of Julius Caesar, he played a significant role in Caesar’s rise to power and subsequent events. After Caesar’s assassination, Antony formed political alliances, notably with Octavian (later Augustus), to fight against Caesar’s assassins. He was also known for his oratory skills, military leadership, and his tumultuous relationship with Cleopatra VII of Egypt. Ultimately, Antony's conflicts and alliances led to the final collapse of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire.
