Maratha
The Maratha refers to a prominent social and military community from western India, primarily associated with the Maratha Empire that rose to power in the 17th and 18th centuries. Originating from the Marathi-speaking regions, they played a key role in resisting Mughal rule and establishing an influential empire across much of India. The Marathas are known for their strong military organization, valor, and contributions to Indian history, culture, and politics. Today, the term also broadly denotes people from the Maratha community, who continue to be significant in social, political, and cultural spheres in India.
