Maoris
The Māori are the indigenous Polynesian people of New Zealand, arriving there over 1,000 years ago from eastern Polynesia. They developed a distinct culture with rich traditions, language (te reo Māori), arts, and social structures. Today, Māori people maintain their cultural identity through language revitalization, customs, and participation in New Zealand’s society while also contributing to the nation’s diversity. They have a strong historical connection to the land and sea, and their presence is integral to New Zealand’s national identity.
