Manx language
Manx is a Celtic language historically spoken on the Isle of Man, a small island in the Irish Sea. It belongs to the Goidelic branch, related to Irish and Scottish Gaelic. Once widespread on the island, it declined in everyday use during the 19th and 20th centuries but experienced a revival starting in the late 20th century through educational programs and cultural efforts. Today, Manx is considered endangered but is actively taught, promoted, and recognized as an important part of the isle’s cultural heritage. Its preservation contributes to the diversity of Celtic languages and regional identity.
