Manhattan Engineer District

The Manhattan Engineer District, often called the Manhattan Project, was a secret U.S. government research effort during World War II focused on developing atomic bombs. Initiated in 1939, it brought together scientists, engineers, and military personnel to advance nuclear physics and produce weaponized nuclear technology. The project led to the creation of the first atomic bombs, which were eventually dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, helping to end the war. It was a groundbreaking and highly classified operation that laid the foundation for nuclear energy and weaponry.
