Mandate for Palestine

The Mandate for Palestine was an international administrative framework established by the League of Nations after World War I, giving Britain authority to govern the region. Its goal was to prepare Palestine for independent self-rule while supporting the establishment of a Jewish national homeland, as promised in the Balfour Declaration. The mandate recognized existing non-Jewish communities and aimed for balanced development, but it also led to tensions between Jewish and Arab populations. Britain was responsible for maintaining order and implementing policies until Palestine could manage its own governance. The mandate ended in 1948, leading to the establishment of the State of Israel.
