Manananggal
The Manananggal is a supernatural creature from Filipino folklore, often depicted as a female vampire or witch capable of severing its upper torso from the lower body. By doing so, it can fly into the night and prey on people, particularly pregnant women and children, to sustain itself or take their unborn fetuses. The creature is usually described as having wings, a grotesque appearance, and an ability to regenerate after its nocturnal hunt. It’s a symbol of fear linked to safety during childbirth and is often used in stories to teach caution or morality.
