Malvinas (Falkland Islands)

The Malvinas, also known as the Falkland Islands, are a remote group of islands in the South Atlantic Ocean. They are a British Overseas Territory, but Argentina claims sovereignty over them, calling them the Malvinas. The islands have a small population and are known for their wildlife, especially penguins and seals. The sovereignty dispute led to a brief war in 1982, which Argentina lost. Today, the islands are self-governed with a British-appointed governor, and their status remains a sensitive and complex issue between the UK and Argentina.
