Maluku languages
The Maluku languages are a diverse group of about 60 languages spoken mainly in the Maluku Islands (also called the Moluccas) in eastern Indonesia. They belong primarily to the Austronesian language family, sharing roots with many languages across Southeast Asia and the Pacific. These languages vary significantly, reflecting the region's complex history of trade, migration, and cultural exchange. Despite differences, many Maluku languages share common features, such as similar vocabulary and grammar, which indicate historical connections. They are vital for local identity and communication but face challenges from national languages like Indonesian.
