MALT lymphoma
MALT lymphoma is a type of cancer that develops from immune system cells called B lymphocytes in the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT), which lines the stomach and other organs. It often arises where chronic inflammation or infection occurs, such as with Helicobacter pylori bacteria in the stomach. Symptoms can include discomfort or swelling, but some people may have no symptoms initially. Treatment frequently involves antibiotics to eradicate infections like H. pylori, which can sometimes lead to remission of the lymphoma. If needed, additional therapies like radiation or chemotherapy may be used to target the cancer cells.
