Malrotation diagnosis
Malrotation is a condition where the intestines, which develop during fetal life, do not rotate properly as they form. This abnormal rotation can cause abnormal placement and twisting of the intestines, increasing the risk of volvulus (twisting that cuts off blood flow). Diagnosis typically involves imaging tests such as ultrasound or specialized X-rays (like a barium swallow or upper GI series) that reveal abnormal positioning or twisting. Early detection is important, especially in infants, to prevent complications like bowel blockage or tissue death. Medical professionals rely on these tests, along with clinical signs, to confirm malrotation and plan appropriate treatment.
