Malaysian polity

Malaysia's polity is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy. The King (Yang di-Pertuan Agong) is the ceremonial head of state, elected among nine hereditary rulers for a five-year term. The government is led by the Prime Minister, who is the head of government and is appointed based on parliamentary support. Parliament consists of two houses: the Dewan Rakyat (House of Representatives) and the Dewan Negara (Senate). The political system balances executive, legislative, and judicial powers, with laws enacted by Parliament and enforced by the government, all operating within Malaysia’s constitution that guarantees rights and governance principles.
