Malaria vaccines are medical treatments designed to protect people from malaria, a disease caused by the Plasmodium parasite transmitted through mosquito bites. These vaccines work by training the immune system to recognize and attack the parasite early, preventing or reducing illness. Currently, the RTS,S/AS01 (Mosquirix) vaccine is the most advanced, showing partial protection in young children. While not perfect, vaccines are a crucial part of malaria control, alongside mosquito control and medications. Ongoing research aims to develop more effective vaccines to better prevent this life-threatening disease, especially in regions where malaria is common.
