Malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs)
Malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) are quick, easy-to-use tools that detect specific proteins from the malaria parasite in a person’s blood. A small blood sample is applied to the test strip, which then shows results within 15-20 minutes—either a line or symbol indicating malaria presence or no infection. RDTs provide a reliable way to diagnose malaria without microscopy or extensive lab equipment, enabling prompt treatment in clinics and remote settings. They are valuable for accurate diagnosis, helping prevent unnecessary use of medications and reducing the risk of complications from malaria.
