Makhteshim (Ramon)
Makhtesh Ramon, often called Ramon Crater, is a unique geological formation in southern Israel. It’s a large, erosion-created crater measuring about 40 km in length and up to 500 meters deep, formed over millions of years by natural processes like water erosion and tectonic activity. Unlike impact craters caused by meteorites, Makhtesh Ramon was shaped by the earth’s natural forces, exposing layers of colorful rocks and minerals. It’s a significant site for geology, ecology, and tourism, offering stunning landscapes, hiking, and scientific insights into the earth’s geological history.
