Major General William T. Sherman

Major General William T. Sherman was a prominent Union Army leader during the American Civil War, known for his strategic military campaigns. He played a key role in defeating Confederate forces in the South, notably leading the “March to the Sea,” where his troops destroyed Confederate supplies and infrastructure to weaken their war effort. Sherman was recognized for his innovative approach to total war—targeting resources as well as armies—to hasten Union victory.
