Maithili
Maithili is an Indo-Aryan language spoken primarily in the Mithila region of India and parts of Nepal. It has a rich literary history, including ancient texts and poetry. Recognized as one of India’s 22 scheduled languages, Maithili has its own script called Tirhuta, though it is often written in Devanagari today. The language plays a vital cultural role, reflecting the traditions, folklore, and identity of its speakers. Maithili authorities promote its preservation and development as an important part of regional and linguistic diversity in South Asia.
