Maison Carrée

The Maison Carrée is a well-preserved ancient Roman temple located in Nîmes, France. Built around 16 BC, it was dedicated to Gaius and Lucius Caesar, grandsons of Emperor Augustus, serving as a religious site honoring the imperial family. Its classical design features a rectangular shape, tall Corinthian columns, and a pediment, reflecting Roman architectural sophisticated tastes. The temple functioned both as a place of worship and as a symbol of Roman strength and stability in the region. Today, it is considered one of the best-preserved examples of Roman temple architecture still standing in the world.
