Maiko
A Maiko is an apprentice Geisha in Japan, typically in their teenage years or early twenties. They undergo rigorous training in traditional arts such as dance, music, calligraphy, and tea ceremony, while also learning proper etiquette. Maikos often wear elaborate kimonos with vibrant patterns, distinctive obi belts, and elaborate hairstyles adorned with accessories. Their role is to entertain guests through performances and conversation, embodying grace and cultural refinement. The Maiko stage serves as a stepping stone toward becoming a fully-fledged Geisha, reflecting a deep commitment to preserving Japan’s traditional arts and performing arts heritage.
