Mahommah Gardo Baquaqua

Mahommah Gardo Baquaqua was an African enslaved person who escaped from bondage in the 19th century. Originally from what is now Ghana or Nigeria, he was captured and forced into slavery, but managed to escape and traveled to the United States. He later documented his experiences, becoming one of the few former slaves to share detailed accounts of the transatlantic slave trade. His narrative provides valuable insights into the brutality of slavery and his journey toward freedom, highlighting both personal resilience and the broader history of African slavery in the 19th century.
