Maharaja Gulab Singh
Maharaja Gulab Singh was a 19th-century ruler who founded the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir in northern India. Originally a leader of the Dogra dynasty, he rose to prominence through military skill and strategic alliances. In 1846, after the First Anglo-Sikh War, he was appointed as the ruler of Jammu, and later expanded his territory to include Kashmir and Ladakh. His leadership established the foundation of the modern Jammu and Kashmir region. Gulab Singh is remembered for consolidating these diverse areas under a single rule, shaping the political landscape of northern India during that period.
