Magnetic monopole (theoretical concept)

A magnetic monopole is a hypothetical particle that acts like a single magnetic charge—either north or south—similar to an electric charge. In nature, magnets always have both a north and south pole; breaking a magnet just results in smaller magnets with both poles. A monopole would be an isolated magnetic north or south pole, which current physics theories suggest could exist but have not yet been observed experimentally.
