Magnetic monopole (theoretical concept)

A magnetic monopole is a hypothetical particle that acts like a single magnetic charge—either north or south—similar to an electric charge. In nature, magnets always have both a north and south pole; breaking a magnet just results in smaller magnets with both poles. A monopole would be an isolated magnetic north or south pole, which current physics theories suggest could exist but have not yet been observed experimentally. Its existence would have profound implications for our understanding of physics, particularly in unifying electric and magnetic forces and explaining certain fundamental symmetries.
