Magellan's Route
Magellan's route was a pioneering expedition in the early 16th century, aiming to find a western passage to Asia. Starting from Spain in 1519, Ferdinand Magellan led a fleet across the Atlantic, through the treacherous waters around South America, discovering the strait now named after him—Magellan Strait—at the southern tip. He then navigated into the vast Pacific Ocean, making a historic crossing to reach the Philippines. Although Magellan himself was killed there, his remaining ships continued west and eventually reached Spain via the Indian Ocean, completing the first circumnavigation of the globe in 1522.
