Magellan

Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer who led the first expedition to sail around the world in 1519-1522. His voyage proved that the Earth is round and connected all the oceans via a continuous route. Magellan's fleet navigated through uncharted waters, including the treacherous strait now called the Strait of Magellan at the southern tip of South America. Although Magellan himself was killed in the Philippines, his expedition successfully completed the first circumnavigation, demonstrating the vastness of the planet and opening new maritime trade routes, fundamentally transforming global geography and exploration.
