Maddox Rod Test

The Maddox Rod Test is a simple eye exam used to detect misalignment (strabismus) or double vision. During the test, a patient looks at a light through a special cylindrical lens called a Maddox rod, which splits the light into a line rather than a point. The patient then reports how the line appears relative to the light. If the line appears offset, it indicates that the eyes are not aligned properly, helping eye doctors determine the type and amount of misalignment and guiding appropriate treatment.
