Machine perfusion systems
Machine perfusion systems are advanced devices used to preserve organs, such as kidneys or livers, outside the body before transplantation. They pump a specially formulated solution through the organ’s blood vessels, mimicking natural blood flow. This process maintains the organ’s temperature, supplies oxygen and nutrients, and helps remove waste, reducing damage and improving the organ’s viability. Unlike traditional cold storage, machine perfusion allows for continuous assessment and potential repair of the organ, increasing the chances of successful transplantation and better long-term outcomes for patients.
