Macedonian Struggle

The Macedonian Struggle (1893–1908) was a conflict primarily between Greek and Bulgarian national movements seeking influence over the Ottoman-controlled region of Macedonia, which was then diverse in ethnicity and religion. Both groups aimed to establish their national identity and secure political control through political activism, armed efforts, and cultural campaigns. The struggle involved guerrilla warfare, efforts to win local support, and diplomatic maneuvers, reflecting broader National Revival movements. It ultimately contributed to the region's complex history, foreshadowing the Balkan Wars and shaping the modern identities of Greece and Bulgaria.
