Macedonian Front

The Macedonian Front, also called the Salonika Front, was a World War I battle zone in the Balkans, where Allied forces—including Serbians, French, British, and others—fought against the Central Powers led by Austria-Hungary and Bulgaria. Established in 1915, it aimed to open a new front against the Central Powers and support Serbia. The front was characterized by trench warfare and difficult mountainous terrain, with limited significant advances for much of the war. It played a strategic role in eventually enabling Allied advances into the Balkans in 1918, contributing to the broader collapse of the Central Powers.
