Maasai culture

The Maasai are a semi-nomadic indigenous people from Kenya and Tanzania, renowned for their rich cultural traditions and strong connection to cattle, which are central to their lifestyle, rites, and identity. They practice age-set systems and live in elaborately decorated homesteads called enkangs. Maasai culture emphasizes community, oral storytelling, and rituals such as circumcision and jumping dances, which mark important life transitions. They also wear distinctive Shúkà cloth and beadwork, highlighting social status and life milestones. Despite modern influences, the Maasai actively preserve their customs and adapt to changing environments while maintaining deep respect for their heritage.
