Māori-Pākehā relations
Māori-Pākehā relations refer to the interactions between the indigenous Māori people and the largely European-descended Pākehā in New Zealand. Historically, these relations involved colonization, land disputes, and cultural misunderstandings. In recent decades, efforts have been made to promote reconciliation, respect Māori rights, and integrate Māori language and customs into national identity. While progress has been significant, some issues related to land, sovereignty, and social disparities remain. Overall, the relationship continues to evolve towards greater mutual respect, partnership, and acknowledgment of Māori culture within New Zealand's society.
