Māori Healing Practices

Māori healing practices, or “rākei,” are traditional health techniques that blend spiritual, physical, and environmental aspects. Central to these practices are concepts like “taha wairua” (spiritual health) and “taha tinana” (physical health). Healing often involves rituals, prayer (karakia), the use of natural remedies (such as plants and herbs), and the involvement of kaumātua (elders) or tohunga (experts) who possess spiritual and healing knowledge. These practices emphasize harmony between mind, body, and spirit, recognizing the interconnectedness of individuals with their ancestors, community, and land in the healing process.
