Müllerian inhibiting substance

Müllerian inhibiting substance (MIS), also known as anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), is a protein produced by cells in the developing testes of male embryos. Its main role is to prevent the formation of female reproductive structures called Müllerian ducts. By doing so, MIS helps guide the development of male reproductive organs, like the testes and penis, while suppressing the development of female organs. In adult life, MIS levels can indicate ovarian reserve in women and testicular function in men, making it useful in fertility assessments and diagnosing certain reproductive conditions.
